Located in China’s Silk Road economic zone, the Heihe-Blagoveshchensk Heilongjiang River Bridge project had to be built on a tight schedule while considering the region’s environmental sensitivities and its exposure to extreme temperature variations. In addition, the bridge had to meet the owner’s high standards and have a project deviation rate no higher than CNY 500,000, while achieving a main material wastage rate of 1 percent. The length of the entire route is 19.9 kilometers, with the cable-stayed bridge portion spanning 1,284 meters in length.
Long Jian Road & Bridge Co. provided general contracting services for the project, and used Bentley’s BIM methodology, reality modeling applications, and ProjectWise for collaborative design, modeling, construction management, information sharing and optimal project coordination. Using Bentley applications provided a 5D management environment that enabled exceptional progress tracking, incremental launching monitoring, quality reporting and inspections, accurate cost management, and security inspections for this project.
Using Bentley’s BIM technology to support 5D digital management, Long Jian Road & Bridge Co. increased management efficiency by 25 percent and achieved the leading domestic level of project progress, quality, safety, cost, and environmental management. Using Bentley applications also reduced land occupation by 770 square meters, saving CNY 100,000, and accurate modeling of steel main beams saved five working days. The project team cut material consumption by 30 tons, saving CNY 100,000, improved modeling efficiency by more than 35 percent, and reduced resource hours by 35 days. The 5D approach also reduced site construction organization, coordination, and inspection time by 30 percent.
The team at Long Jian Road & Bridge Co. used a range of Bentley software to achieve its required outcomes including MicroStation and ProjectWise, which supported unified, end-to-end 5D collaborative project management, and Navigator, which enabled accurate construction organization for timely project completion. OpenBridge Modeler increased the accuracy of template assembly and coordinate stakeout, with measurement accuracy within 5 millimeters in the modeling of continuous beams. OpenBridge Modeler also supported parametric bridge modeling, allowing engineers to perform timely bridge inspections and quality checks, increasing efficiency by 50 times. ProStructures enabled accurate modeling of steel structures and reinforcements for greater construction accuracy and reduced material loss. ContextCapture provided digital capabilities for asset management, security management, digital terrain survey, and earthwork optimization.
